SHANGHAI (ICIS news)--China National Offshore Oil Corp (CNOOC) is planning to build a petrochemical complex in Cangzhou city in northeastern Hebei province in late 2008, said a company official on Monday.

Local media reports said that CNOOC with the local Zhongjie Group will invest yuan (CNY) 17bn ($2bn) on the 12m tonne/year complex in the Bohai New District of Cangzhou in the second half of this year

But the official could not confirm the investment capital and the capacity of the complex.

“The data in the media report was not the same with the one I have, I really don’t know where the figures come from…” the official told ICIS news.

“Maybe we will announce some details on our website when the project has been confirmed because it’s a long-term plan for us,” he added.

Zhongjie Group was acquired by CNOOC in the second half of 2007 when the plan to build the complex was first signed.
