HOUSTON (ICIS news)--Traffic has stopped at the Houston Ship Channel due to bad weather, the US Coast Guard said on Thursday.

The channel is the major marine entry into Houston, the largest petrochemicals hub in the US.

Pilots had suspended boardings of tankers, bulk carriers and other deep-draft commercial vessels that were entering ports north and south of Galveston, Texas, and Texas City, the Coast Guard said.

So far, 24 commercial ships are waiting to enter ports along the channel, and 40 ships are waiting to leave, the Coast Guard said.
