SHANGHAI (ICIS news)--China’s Gaoqiao Petrochemical shut down a 75,000 tonne/year acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) line on Thursday due to a mechanical problem, said a company source on Friday.
The Sinopec subsidiary did not provide any information on the length of the shutdown at the Shanghai-based plant, but said the turnaround would relieve the pressure from high costs and inventory due to weak demand.
The company operates three ABS lines in Shanghai, each with a capacity of 75,000 tonnes/year. Operation rates of the other two lines had been cut to 70-80%, the source added.
