HOUSTON (ICIS news)--US isopropanol (IPA) exports rose in June to 37,351 tonnes, an increase of 19% from 31,500 tonnes one year previously in the same month, according to US International Trade Commission (ITC) data released on Tuesday.
Major importers were China, Belgium and Singapore, which took similar volumes in the range of 5,000-6,500 tonnes and collectively accounted for 47% of the material shipped in June.
But the year-over-year increase resulted largely from demand in Turkey, which took 2,210 tonnes in June after taking 914 tonnes one year ago, and from the jump in exports to the Philippines to 2,553 tonnes from only 14 tonnes during the same period last year, the ITC said.
Imports, which came mostly from Canada, declined by 35% to 4,258 tonnes from 6,508 tonnes in June 2007.
August IPA contract prices in the US are 108-110 cents/lb (€72-74/tonne), according to data from global chemical market intelligence service ICIS pricing, driven largely by volatile energy prices and tight supply.
US IPA producers include Shell Chemicals, Dow Chemical, LyondellBasell, ExxonMobil and Sasol.
