Borealis, MCC step up PP compound auto supply

MUMBAI (ICIS news)--Borealis and affiliates of Mitsubishi Chemical Corp (MCC) have signed manufacturing and supply agrerments to improve the delivery of polypropylene (PP) compounds to the automotive industry in Europe and the US, it said on Wednesday.

Borealis and its US subsidiary Borealis Compounds will use its proprietary Borstar technology to manufacture the products locally using a formula developed by Mitsubishi Chemical Europe and licensed by Japan Polypropylene, it said in a statement.

"As material producers, we must have the capacity to supply high quality, high performance PP compunds and provide best-in-class service to customers globally," said Borealis CEO Mark Garrett.

High performance PP compounds are widely used in the production of exterior and interior automotive components including bumpers, instrument panels, door trim panels and other internal applications.

Borealis has stakes in PP compound facilities in Europe and Brazil while MCC has units in China, India, Japan, Thailand and the US.
