SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--South Korea polypropylene (PP) producer Polymirae has shut down its facility in Yeosu partially due to weak demand and a shortage of on-site propylene feedstock, a company source said.

One of its PP lines with a 150,000 tonne/year capacity was shut down on Friday and its two other lines with a combined capacity of 300,000 tonne/year were shut down on Sunday, the source said.

“We’ll lose a significant volume in August due to the shutdowns,” he said.

He declined to reveal the amount of PP lost or what caused the propylene shortages.

The producer also planned to cut production at the same facilities in September for the same reasons, he said.

“We’ll lose a considerable volume of production in September,” he said, adding that the September shutdown schedule would be confirmed shortly.
