SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Singapore power generation company Tuas Power Ltd will build a biomass/clean coal cogeneration plant within its planned Singapore dollar (S$) 2bn ($1.41bn) multi-utilities complex in Tembusu, Jurong, that will cater to its petrochemical clients, the company said late Thursday.

The complex, which will also have a desalination plant and a wastewater treatment facility, is expected to start operations in 2011.

“With the new cogeneration plant, Tuas Power will be able to directly pass on the economic benefits of cost-saving to its cluster of business clients on Jurong Island by increasing overall energy efficiency,” the company said.

The Tembusu multi-utilities complex was expected to have a total plant efficiency of 70%, with the bulk of energy going towards steam generation at a rate of 900 tonnes/hour.
