LONDON (ICIS news)--Swedish oxo-alcohols producer PerstorpOxo AB has completed maintenance work at its phthalic anhydride (PA) unit, but is experiencing an unexpected technical issue on 2-ethylhexanol (2-EH), a company source said on Friday.
The company’s 35,000 tonne/year PA plant in Stenungsund, Sweden was restarted on 24 September after maintenance work and was currently ramping up production rates.
The company’s 65,000 tonne/year dioctyl phthalate (DOP) unit was scheduled to restart in the middle of next week. The maintenance work at both plants started on 11 September.
Perstorp experienced a technical issue related to steam supply on 25 September at its oxo-alcohols unit, preventing the production of feedstock butyraldehyde.
As a result, Perstorp’s 120,000 tonne/year 2-EH plant could not be restarted on Wednesday and was now expected to be restarted on 26 September.
Perstorp did not expect the issue to affect its deliveries.
"It will not impact customers. It will reduce oxo-alcohol inventory levels, but we will manage to keep up with contract customers," said a company source.
The company’s 90,000 tonne/year butanol plant has not been notably affected, Perstorp said.
