HOUSTON (ICIS news)--Invista will permanently idle its polyethylene terephthalate (PET) production at a site in Greer, South Carolina, the company said on Wednesday.

Production at the 150,000 tonnes/year bottle-grade PET plant is expected to cease by the end of October, said spokeswoman Jodie Stutzman.

Invista plans to switch customers of the Greer plant to its Spartanburg, South Carolina, facility, or make other arrangements, the company said.

Although Invista owns the assets at the site, the actual operations are run by Mitsubishi Polyester Films, Stutzman said, adding that Mitsubishi's other operations at the Greer site should not be affected by the PET unit’s shutdown.
