SHANGHAI (ICIS news)--BP Zhuhai has restarted its 500,000 tonne/year purified terephthalic acid (PTA) plant in Zhuhai, southern China, in early October, said a company source on Wednesday.

The unit had remained shut since early July due to poor profit margins caused by the soft downstream polyester market, said the source.

The company has another 900,000 tonne/year PTA plant at the same Zhuhai site which was restarted in mid-August after a one-month turnaround.

BP Zhuhai is a joint venture between oil major BP and the China Fuhua Group.

China PTA producers had slashed operating rates due to the squeezed margins since mid-year, said market players.
