HOUSTON (ICIS news)--US-based fibre and polymer producer Invista plans to open a textile research facility in mainland China by May 2009, the company said on Thursday.

The 3,000-square-metre Invista China Textile Research Center will be operated by Invista Fiber (Shanghai) Company on the same site as the company’s spandex plant in the Qingpu District of Shanghai.

Eric Chang, Asia technology director of Invista apparel, said the facility will serve customers throughout Asia by helping to “accelerate the advancement of the textile industry [and] align with the Chinese Government’s goals to nurture high-value and innovative technologies and industries.”

The facility will be the company’s third textile research centre, with the others in the US and Taiwan.
