SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Thailand’s Siam Cement Group (SCG) has cut its polyethylene (PE) and polypropylene (PP) plants at Mab Ta Phut due to weak demand and rising inventories, a company source said on Thursday.
The 100,000 tonne/year low density PE (LDPE) unit and 100,000 tonne/year linear low density PE (LDPE) line operated by its wholly-owned subsidiary, Thai Polyethylene, were shut around 22 October for one and a half weeks and three weeks respectively, the source said.
Three high density PE (HDPE) lines, also operated by Thai Polyethylene, with a 580,000 tonne/year combined capacity had been running at 80% rates since end-October, he added.
The 180,000 tonne/year PP line operated by its wholly owned subsidiary, Thai Polypropylene, was shut around the same time for three weeks, he said.
Its other PP line with 140,000 tonnes/year of capacity was running at full capacity, he said.
