HOUSTON (ICIS news)--Chevron Phillips Chemical has idled its Sweeny 22 ethylene unit in Texas due to weak demand for the monomer, the company said on Friday.

Chevron Phillips said a date for the restart of the 295,000 tonne/year unit had not been determined.

No layoffs were anticipated as a result of the shutdown, the company said.

Chevron Phillips has two other olefins crackers at the site with a combined capacity of 1.6m tonnes/year.

Sweeny 24 has 676,000 tonnes/year of capacity and Sweeny 33 has 907,000 tonnes/year, according to global chemical market intelligence service ICIS pricing.
