SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Yantai Wanhua has pushed back the expansion of its methyl di-p-phenylene isocyanate (MDI) plant in Ningbo, in China’s Zhejiang province to next year, expecting markets to be flooded with supply amid weakening demand, a company source said on Wednesday.
“We expect the regional market to be oversupplied as new capacities have been added this year but demand is expected to fall significantly in the coming months due to the (economic) downturn,” the source said.
Regional supply was increased after Nippon Polyurethane started up a new plant early this year and Bayer MaterialScience started up a new plant in October.
