US Oct caustic soda imports drop 29% vs Sep

HOUSTON (ICIS news)--US caustic soda imports were 177,121 tonnes in October, down by 29% from 248,040 tonnes in September, the US International Trade Commission (ITC) said on Thursday.

However, imports in October were up by 17% from 151,924 tonnes one year earlier, the government said.

US caustic imports in January-October were 1.52m tonnes, up by 22% from 1.25m tonnes in the same period of 2007.

US caustic soda producers include Olin, Georgia Gulf, Formosa Plastics, PPG Industries, Shintech, Occidental Chemical, Dow Chemical and Bayer.
