HOUSTON (ICIS news)--US exports of methyl isobutyl ketone (MIBK) fell in October to 1,068 tonnes, a decrease of 70% from 3,578 tonnes during the same month a year ago, according to US International Trade Commission (ITC) data released on Thursday.
Month over month, however, US MIBK exports rose by 87% from 571 tonnes in September. Although the US MIBK market has weakened in recent weeks, it was balanced amid relatively healthy demand in October, sources said.
The top three export destinations in October were Spain, United Arab Emirates and Canada, which took 75% of total shipments for the period.
Imports dropped by 74% to 581 in October from 2,203 during the same year-ago period, but October import volumes were down by only 27% from September.
US MIBK producers include, Dow Chemical, Sasol and Celanese.
