HOUSTON (ICIS news)--US exports of butyl acetate (butac) dropped 21% to 3,870 tonnes in November from the same month in 2007, according to data the US International Trade Commission (ITC) released on Tuesday.

November butac exports fell by 24% from October, the ITC said.

US butac exports rose 7% in the first 11 months of 2008, totalling 59,685 tonnes, compared with 55,637 tonnes in the same period of 2007.

Mexico, Brazil and Canada were the top three export destinations year-to-date, accounting for 28,701 tonnes, or nearly 48% of total shipments.

It was virtually identical to the tonnage those countries exported from the US a year earlier.

US Gulf coast export prices for butac ranged from 76-85 cents/lb ($1,675-1,874/tonne, €1,256-1,406/tonne) over the past month, according to global chemical market intelligence service ICIS pricing.

Major US butac producers include Dow Chemical, Eastman Chemical and Oxea Group.
