HOUSTON (ICIS news)--US exports of methyl isobutyl ketone (MIBK) fell in November to 415 tonnes, in contrast to exports of 4,824 tonnes in November 2007, a drop of 91%, according to US International Trade Commission (ITC) data released on Tuesday.
November exports were also down by 61% from October's 1,068 tonnes, reflecting foreign demand diminished by the global recession and a US dollar that strengthened to nearly €0.80 during the period.
The top destinations, Mexico and Canada, took 84% of November shipments.
US prices for MIBK this week were 120-126 cents/lb ($2,646-2,778/tonne or €1,985-2,084/tonne), according to data from global chemical market intelligence service ICIS pricing.
US MIBK producers include, Dow Chemical, Eastman and Celanese.
