MEXICO CITY (ICIS news)--State-run Mexican petrochemical giant Petroleos Mexicanos (Pemex) produced 349,000 tonnes of olefins, aromatics and other petrochemicals in January, down 0.9% year over year, the company said on Friday.
Compared with December, however, January's figure was up by 32%, Pemex said.
The figure does not include the polypropylene (PP) produced at the Morelos petrochemical plant, which is part of Pemex’s refining division.
The largest year-over-year change was in ethylbenzene (EB), in which production dropped by 15,000 tonnes to 1,000 tonnes, Pemex said.
Overall, Pemex produced 1.61m tonnes of chemicals in January, up 1% from the same time last year and up 29% from December 2008, Pemex said. The figure includes refinery products, natural gas and sulphur.
