TORONTO (ICIS news)--Chemical engineering firm Foster Wheeler has won a contract for a planned carbon storage capture project in the Rotterdam region, it said on Friday.

Under the deal, Foster Wheeler would provide engineering consultancy services to the Rotterdam Climate Initiative (RCI), which was aiming to reduce the region’s carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by 50% by 2025, compared with 1990 emissions, it said.

RCI aimed to achieve its goal through a carbon capture, utilisation and storage initiative that involved the major CO2 emitting companies of the Rotterdam Port area, as well as improvements in energy efficiencies and increased renewable energy production, Foster Wheeler said.

It did not disclose financial terms.
