SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--China’s Shijiazhuang Shuanglian is running its 300,000 tonne/year soda ash plant in Shijiazhuang, northern China, at 70% due to weak business conditions in the downstream sectors, a source close to the company said on Tuesday.

The plant had been running at reduced rates since early-July in light of the prevailing weak demand owing to the slump in the downstream construction sector, the source added.

Soda ash prices in the domestic market were assessed at yuan (CNY) 1,150-1,250/tonne ($168-183/tonne) EXW (ex-works) for dense grade and CNY1,000-1,100/tonne EXW for light soda ash on 24 July, according to global chemical market intelligence service ICIS pricing.
