SHANGHAI(ICIS news)--China’s Fujian Refining & Petrochemical Company's (FREP) chemical complex has started up and on-spec production has begun, the company said on Friday.

The complex includes an 800,000 tonne/year ethylene steam cracker, an 800,000 tonne/year polyethylene (PE) unit, a 400,000 tonne/year polypropylene (PP) unit and a 700,000 tonne/year aromatics complex, FREP said.

The company started up its 8m tonne/year refining unit in early May, tripling the existing refinery capacity at Quanzhou, Fujian, to 240,000 bbls/day, the equivalent of 12m tonnes/year.

FREP is owned by Fujian Petrochemical Company Limited (50%) - a 50:50 joint venture between the Fujian provincial government and Chinese energy major Sinopec - ExxonMobil China Petroleum and Petrochemical Company Limited (25%) and Saudi Aramco Sino Company Limited (25%)
