China posts robust petchem output in September - CPCIA

SHANGHAI (ICIS news)--China recorded strong petrochemical production in September, with most products registering annual double-digit growths given some recovery in downstream demand, data from China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Association (CPCIA) showed on Wednesday.

Its ethylene output jumped 29.4% year on year to 1.01m tonnes, as apparent consumption of the chemical grew for the first time this year at 3%, CPCIA said.

Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) output grew 30.8% to 842,000 tonnes in September, based on the statistics.

"Output of ethylene and calcium carbide, the two kinds of feedstocks of PVC, increased steadily this month, providing for smooth PVC production," an industry source said.

Polyester output, meanwhile, grew 33.9% to 980,000 tonnes in September as its apparent consumption registered an increase of 24.5%, based on CPCIA data.
