MIAMI (ICIS news)--Enterprise Products Partners’ iso-octene plant in Mont Belvieu, Texas, will be converted to methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE) and production is expected by early January, an industry source said on Wednesday.
“[The Mont Belvieu] facility has the ability to easily switch back and forth from iso-octene and iso-octane to MTBE. It really won't take too long,” the source said on the sidelines of the CMAI World Methanol Conference in ?xml:namespace>
Favourable operating rates, combined with steady global demand and short supply, have given MTBE producers ample opportunity for sound profit margins, despite a US phase-out of the oxygenate in 2005.
