NEW YORK (ICIS news)--US bioplastics producer Cereplast will expand its ability to supply Europe through an extended distribution agreement with US-based plastics supplier A Schulman, Cereplast chairman and chief executive Frederic Scheer said on Monday.

The agreement will be formally announced in the next few days, Scheer said in an interview with ICIS.

A Schulman has been distributing Cereplast’s resins to converters and manufacturers in France, Spain, the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg since January 2009. The new agreement will encompass all European countries, added Scheer.

Cereplast said it expects a couple of its highly visible clients in Europe to start using its resins within the first half of 2010.

The company said it is also looking to expand its sales in China, Chile, Argentina and Brazil in 2010.

“We are in the process of restructuring our sales department as we aim to be more active and aggressive in sales and marketing this year,” said Scheer.

Cereplast currently markets 100% renewable-based compostable resins targeting single-use disposables and packaging applications, as well as hybrid resins that replace up to 50% of petroleum content in conventional plastics with plant-based resins, the company said.
