SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--SK Energy plans to shut down two crude distillation units (CDUs) and a hydrocracker this year at its 840,000 bbl/day refinery at Ulsan, South Korea, for scheduled maintenance, a source close to the refiner said on Thursday.

SK Energy will shut down the 45,000 bbl/day hydrocracker at Ulsan on 2 April for 26 days, the source said.

The 120,000 bbl/day No 2 CDU will be shut down on 1 June for 34 days, while the 260,000 bbl/day No 4 CDU will be shut down from 26 August until 28 September, the source added.

SK Energy’s 60,000 bbl/day No 1 CDU at Ulsan was reported to be presently off line for economic reasons, the source said, adding that in recent months the unit had been operating with poor margins and changes in crude slates.

Last year, SK Energy shut down its 240,000 bbl/day No 4 CDU at Ulsan for around four weeks in August and September due to poor margins.
