TORONTO (ICIS news)--Bayer MaterialScience has formed a strategic alliance with Ohio-based Martin Pultrusion Group, a provider of pultrusion equipment, tooling and processing technology, the companies said on Tuesday.
Under the deal, the firms would cooperate on innovation in pultrusion processing, including new polyurethane (PU) pultrusion applications.
PU was especially suited to pultrusion - a manufacturing process for composite materials – when compared with polyesters, vinyl esters and epoxies, they said.
Bayer is described as the largest producer of PU raw materials in the NAFTA region and Martin is described as the world’s largest independent producer of turnkey pultrusion equipment and tooling.
“The pultrusion process combined with polyurethane chemistry is enabling OEMs [original equipment manufacturers] to develop profiles for new applications and to enter markets that were [previously inaccessible] with familiar pultrusion resin systems,” said Harry George, a polyurethanes expert at Bayer.
Financial or other contract terms were not disclosed.
