SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS (ICIS news)--The emerging Asia region will lead the world economic growth and be the key driver for the global chemical industry, said an executive from the Singapore Economic Development Board (SEDB) on Sunday.

Post economic crisis, emerging Asia will be the fastest-growing region of the global economy, said Julian Ho, assistant managing director of the SEDB, at the Symposium on Entrepreneurship and Innovation at the International Petrochemical Conference (IPC).

For the Singapore chemical industry, "we are fairly optimistic as products need to be made in Asia and we are well positioned," he added.

Emerging Asia includes China, India, Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia, Ho noted.

Singapores Jurong Island is one of the top 10 global hubs for petrochemicals, he added.

"Emerging Asia will be the center of growth. The Asia growth story is well and alive," said Ho.

Hosted by the National Petrochemical & Refiners Association (NPRA), the IPC continues through Tuesday.
