The project would include a 400,000 tonne/year coal-to-methanol plant and a 400,000 tonne/year monoethylene glycol (MEG) plant, the official said.
“We approved it several months ago but there’s no final timetable yet on its construction and operation,” said the source, adding that the company was still awaiting clearance on land-use issues.
The company originally planned to start construction on the first phase of the project, a 200,000 tonne/year MEG plant, by June of this year, the official added.
Sources from the company declined to comment on the project.
