Bayer MaterialScience unit to oversee production integration

LONDON (ICIS news)--Bayer MaterialScience has appointed a site management unit to oversee integration of its production activities at the Leverkusen, Dormagen and Krefeld-Uerdingen Chemparks in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, it said on Monday.

"The production sites in Leverkusen, Dormagen and Uerdingen will become even more strongly interdependent. For this reason, we want to manage and develop them uniformly by way of a joint site management unit," said board member Tony Van Osselaer.

The new unit will be based at the Dormagen Chempark and assume its responsibilities on 1 July 2010.

Dormagen hosts the company's largest production plants and employs the most staff of all its North Rhine-Westphalia sites. Bayer MaterialScience also plans to invest €150m ($182m) in a new toluene di-isocyanate (TDI) production plant at this site.

The company said it had appointed Klaus Jaeger, who has been Shanghai site manager for the last three years, as head of Dormagen.

An integrated production network offers several advantages, such as allowing uniform implementation of regulatory requirements and creating new synergies in areas such as personnel management, purchasing, infrastructure and raw materials supply, Bayer MaterialScience said.
