HOUSTON (ICIS)--Dow Chemical will increase its polyolefin elastomers capacity at production facilities in Freeport, Texas, and Tarragona, Spain to meet growing global demand, the US producer said on Tuesday.
Dow said the expansions, combined with an under-construction specialty elastomers plant in Thailand from the SCG-Dow Group joint venture, would result in a net increase of 550m lbs (250,000 tonnes) of capacity.
“By improving our manufacturing operations and investing in technology, along with the added capacity at the new Thailand plant, we will be poised to meet this growing demand and support our customers globally,” said Luis Cirihal, global business director for Dow Elastomers.
Overall, Dow’s global capacity for polyolefin elastomers would reach nearly 2bn pounds, according to the company.
Dow did not disclose financial costs or a timetable for when the added capacity would come online.
