LONDON (ICIS)--Dutch producer DSM said on Monday that investigations into the deaths of three workers at the group’s facilities in Capua, Italy, are ongoing and that the root cause of the incident is still unknown.

The incident occurred on 11 September while three contractors were conducting regular maintenance work in one of two fermentation units, which are used to manufacture food ingredients and enzymes.

Authorities and an independent DSM team were facilitating an investigation into the incident.

DSM said that activities at the fermentation facility have been suspended, while other business activities on site have been reduced.

A decision to restart activities at the fermentation facility would only be taken once there is a guarantee that working conditions are safe, DSM said.
