HOUSTON (ICIS)--US fuel ethanol stocks fell by 2.2% to 17.5m bbl (735m gal) in the week ended 17 September from a week earlier, the US Energy Information Administration (EIA) said on Wednesday.

Ethanol production as assessed by the EIA last week averaged 850,000 bbl/day, a 2.6% drop from 872,000 bbl/day in the previous week.

The drop was likely due to planned maintenance a number of plants, a market source said.

US ethanol production in August averaged 854,000 bbl/day, up from 836,000 bbl/day in July, according to EIA data.
