TORONTO (ICIS)--Evonik CEO Klaus Engel has been elected president of Germany’s chemical industry trade group VCI at a members’ meeting in Dresden on Friday, the group said.

He succeeds Ulrich Lehner, former CEO of Henkel, in that role.

Engel was the only nominated candidate for president. Lehner was not standing for re-election.

VCI members also confirmed as vice presidents Jurgen Hambrecht, CEO of BASF; Werner Wenning, outgoing CEO of Bayer; and Karl-Ludwig Kley, CEO of Merck KGaA.

Frankfurt-based VCI represents the interests of some 1,650 chemical firms.
