LONDON (ICIS)--Major US phosphate producer Mosaic has begun agreeing fourth-quarter liquid sulphur contracts at an increase of $65/long ton (€46/long ton) on the back of firming global sulphur prices, a company source said on Monday.

Mosaic began settling some fourth-quarter contracts with its major producers at $160/long ton CFR (cost and freight) Tampa late on Friday, the source added.

The new price was $65/long ton above third-quarter contract prices of $95/long ton CFR, against the backdrop of firming global sulphur prices due to good demand in major import markets such as China and India during the third quarter.

However, the price was higher than the widely anticipated increase of $50/long ton in the market.

Sulphur is a raw material for phosphate fertilizer production.
