Russia's Metafrax sees rise in methanol production

MOSCOW (ICIS)--Metafrax's methanol output was up in the first three-quarters compared with the same period in 2009, the Russian producer said in a report released on Monday.

Metafrax produced 758,000 tonnes of methanol from January to September this year, a year-on-year rise of 33.5%.

The company also produced 183,800 tonnes of formalin, a rise of 27% compared with last year.

Metafrax, based at Gubakha in the Perm region of northern Russia, is the country's largest methanol producer and exporter. In 2007, the company raised its methanol capacity up to 1m tonnes/year.

Metafrax produced 838,000 tonnes of methanol in the whole of 2009, a fall of 13% compared with 2008, and 209,500 tonnes of formalin - a 22% fall, according to the company.
