SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Qatar Petrochemical Co (QAPCO) is expected to shut its 200,000 tonne/year low density polyethylene (LDPE) line in Mesaieed, Qatar, within this week for maintenance, sources close to the company said on Thursday.
The line would be shut for 10 to 15 days, the sources added.
The producer would export significantly less coating-grade LDPE to Asia in December as a result of the shutdown because the line is dedicated to producing that product, the sources said.
Meanwhile, QAPCO would continue to run its other 200,000 tonne/year line at the same site at a “normal rate”, they said, adding the unit produces mainly film-grade LDPE.
QAPCO is a regular supplier of LDPE to China and southeast Asia.
The producer was not immediately available to comment.
