SHANGHAI (ICIS)--China-based Fujian Haobang Chemical has been running trials at its newly built 5,000 tonne/year epichlorohydrin (ECH) unit at Longyan in southern Fujian province, a company source said on Friday.

The trial runs started in November, but the company encountered several problems with the machinery, the source added.

The producer would decide when to start production based on the results of the trial runs, the source said, but added this would most likely take place after the Lunar New Year in February.

The company plans to expand the plant’s capacity to 25,000 tonnes/year after achieving on-spec products, but the source refused to disclose the details of the schedule.

The producer uses glycerine to produce ECH, while other major producers in the domestic market use propylene as feedstock, the source added.
