DUBAI (ICIS)--The Egyptian Styrenics Production Co (E-STYRENICS) hopes to start trial production at its new 200,000 tonne/year polystyrene (PS) plant in Alexandria, Egypt, in the fourth quarter of 2011, a source at the Egyptian Petrochemicals Holding Co (Echem) said on Tuesday.

The PS plant will use imported styrene feedstock until Echem’s proposed new 100,000 tonne/year styrene plant at the same site is built, the source said on the sidelines of the Arabplast exhibition in Dubai.

Echem has been in talks with local banks to jointly build the styrene plant, the source added.

Echem is the largest shareholder in E-STYRENICS, holding a 35% stake in the company.

The four-day 10th Arab International Plastics and Rubber Industry Trade Show and Conference in Dubai ends today.
