US paraffin wax imports rise by 16% from 2009

HOUSTON (ICIS)--US paraffin wax (p-wax) imports for 2010 were up 16% from 2009, according to data released by the US International Trade Commission (ITC) on Thursday.

US 2010 p-wax imports rose to 260,225 tonnes from 225,158 tonnes in 2009.

Imports rose last year as a result of increased demand in North America for candles, market sources said.

Imports in December fell 12% to 16,438 tonnes from 18,585 tonnes in December 2009, the ITC said.

December imports fell by 4% from 17,166 tonnes in November 2010.

The biggest exporters of p-wax to the US were China, Canada, Japan, Malaysia, India and Taiwan.
