SINGAPORE (ICIS)--South Korea’s Samsung Total Petrochemicals plans to debottleneck its naphtha cracker in Daesan during a turnaround that will start at the end of April, sources close to the company said on Thursday.

The cracker is expected to be off line for maintenance until early June.

After the expansion, the ethylene nameplate capacity will be increased to over 900,000 tonnes/year from the existing 850,000 tonnes/year, said one source who did not want to reveal the actual raised capacity.

Samsung Total will also take its derivative polyethylene (PE) and polypropylene (PP) plants at the same site off line for maintenance in May, according to an earlier ICIS news report.
