US paraffin wax January imports fall 35% year on year - ITC

HOUSTON (ICIS)--US imports of paraffin wax (p-wax) in January decreased by 35% year on year, according to data released Thursday by the US International Trade Commission (ITC).

Imports of p-wax (less than 0.75% oil) totalled 16,452 tonnes in January 2011, compared with 25,410 tonnes imported in January 2010, and steady with the 16,438 tonnes imported in December 2010.

Greece, at 5,788 tonnes, was the major US source for p-wax in January. Other suppliers of imports included China at 3,283 tonnes, Japan at 2,710 tonnes and Canada at 2,542 tonnes.

Additional suppliers of US p-wax imports included Malaysia, India, Bolivia, Saudi Arabia, Germany and Thailand.
