SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Japan’s Sumitomo Chemical might shut down one of its two caprolactam lines in Ehime prefecture before the end of the week because of a feedstock shortage, resulting from a string of cracker shutdowns in the region, a source close to the company said on Tuesday.

The lines have capacities of 100,000 tonnes/year and 80,000 tonnes/year, but it is unclear which line will be shut down, the source added.

"It’s 80% confirmed that we need to shut down at least one line," said the source.

The two lines are currently operating normally, the source added.

The plant was unaffected by the earthquake as it is located in Japan's northwestern Shikoku region, which is far from the epicentre.
