SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Japan’s Mitsui Chemicals will need to buy benzene from the domestic spot market in April as it lost around 3,000 tonnes of benzene production after cutting operating rates at its 130,000 tonne/year facility at Chiba, a company source said on Tuesday.
Mitsui produces benzene from the pygas it receives from its upstream cracker at the same site. Pygas supply has been cut since the cracker reduced operating rates following the 11 March earthquake, the source said.
The source declined to say how much spot benzene the company will need to buy in April.
