SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Japan’s Sumitomo Chemical is running its polyethylene (PE) and polypropylene (PP) plants in Chiba at 100% capacity after restarting them on 13 March, a company source said on Wednesday.

The PE and PP plants were shut for safety reasons on 11 March when the massive earthquake struck Japan, the source said.

Meanwhile, the producer will switch to using truck delivery, as the country’s domestic container train delivery capacity has been reduced significantly following Japan Rail’s efforts to conserve energy in the wake of the earthquake, he said.

It will need to change its packaging to jumbo bags as a result, he added.

Sumitomo Chemcial’s customers are mainly located in Japan’s Kansai region, Osaka, Shikoku Island and Kyushu Island.
