SINGAPORE (ICIS)--JX ?xml:namespace>Nippon Oil and Energy plans to restart its 270,000 bbl/day Negishi refinery next week, a company source said on Wednesday.
The Negishi refinery was shutdown on Friday following the devastating earthquake and tsunami which hit the northeast of the main island of Honshu. The source was unable to give an exact date for the restart.
The official said the fire at JX Energy’s 145,000 bbl/day Sendai refinery in the hard-hit Miyagi prefecture had been extinguished on Tuesday. The fire in the storage and shipping facilities had also damaged a 35,500 bbl/day fluid catalytic cracker (FCC) at the refinery.
JX had no immediate plans to restart either the Sendai refinery or another refinery at Kashima in Ibaraki prefecture, which was also shutdown on Friday. Port facilities at both locations remained closed following serious damage.
Kashima refinery has 189,000 bbl/day of crude distillation capacity and a further 63,500 bbl/day condensate splitter giving a total refining capacity of 252,500 bbl/day.
