SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Taiwan’s Formosa Petrochemical Corp (FPCC) had a small fire at its 1.03m tonne/year No 2 naphtha cracker in Mailiao at 10:00 hours local time (02:00 hours GMT) which was put out quickly but the unit was not shut, a source close to the company said on Tuesday.

“The fire was put out very quickly. Local government officials came to check on the plant, but the plant was not shut,” a source at Formosa Plastics, a sister company to the FPCC, told ICIS.

Earlier a trader said the plant had been shut down.

“The Taiwan government may have recommended them to shut down because it has happened so many times,” the trader said.

No further details were immediately available and FPCC officials could not be reached for comment.
