HOUSTON (ICIS)--Huntsman has declared force majeure (FM) on US epoxy resins, citing a shortage of raw materials, buyers said on Tuesday.

Allocation levels have not been communicated, but buyers expect the shortages to persist through the second quarter.

Buyers said the FM is directly related to extremely tight supplies of bisphenol-A (BPA), an intermediate for epoxy resins and polycarbonate (PC).

A call to the company was referred to Huntsman Advanced Materials in Switzerland, where a spokesperson was not immediately available for comment.

Huntsman produces liquid epoxy resins (LER) and solid epoxy resins (SER) at its McIntosh plant in Alabama.

Major US epoxy resins producers include Dow Chemical, Momentive Specialty Chemicals and Huntsman.
