SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Indian Oil Corp Ltd (IOC) will restart its 40,000 tonne/year paraffin wax (p-wax) unit in Digboi on 16 April, a company source said on Friday.

It was shut for three weeks of planned maintenance in late March.

The plant can produce about 3,500 tonnes/month of wax, 10% of which is premium Type 1 grade and the rest is Type 2 grade, depending on the wax content of the oil feed.

Type 1 p-wax is used in the production of pharmaceuticals, food quality wax and cosmetics, while Type 2 is used in the manufacture of candles, the company source added.

Other regional producers include Chennai Petroleum and Pertamina.
