US February MDI exports fall by 22% year on year

HOUSTON (ICIS)--US February exports of mixtures of methyl di-p-phenylene isocyanate (MDI) totalled 1,219 tonnes, dropping by 22% from 1,563 tonnes during the same month a year earlier, but increasing by 1% from 1,207 tonnes the previous month, according to US International Trade Commission (ITC) data released on Tuesday.

From January through February, MDI exports had  increased by 3% to 2,426 tonnes, compared with 2,351 tonnes in the first two months of last year, according to the ITC.

The year-on-year increase was because of greater volumes shipped to Brazil and Mexico.

Top destinations for US MDI from January to February were Brazil (1,154 tonnes), Mexico (603 tonnes) and China (267 tonnes).

US MDI suppliers include Bayer MaterialScience, BASF and Dow Chemical.
